Re: 14 weeks post surgical removal and no period
Hello,
I sympathize with you! I think I'm just really sensitive to hormones and should have never gotten Mirena inserted in the first place.
The first time I went off the pill I didn't have my period for 6 months! I finally went to the doctor who also prescribed Provera or something like it, which I didn't want to take. Instead I searched "natural emenagogue" and found advice about brewing ginger tea. At this point in time, I didn't believe in natural remedies, but figured it couldn't hurt. It may have been psychological, but after brewing ginger tea for about a week and sipping it all day long, my period came without Provera.
My period DID come after Mirena removal right away, but then I had a couple of dry months. I tried ginger tea again, to no avail, but after searching more natural cures, found that some women brewed parsley tea (basically your grocery store fresh parsley, chopped, in boiling water). I decided to go crazy and brewed ginger/parsley tea and drank it constantly for about 4 days, and my period came.
My naturopath also prescribed "natural" (from yams) progesterone cream for me to regulate my periods, which worked for a few months, but which I've discontinued because it's given me side effects that are JUST as bad as the Mirena (fatigue, nausea, UTIs, foggy brain, headache, back pain). So be careful with this stuff.
The tea might seem like a simple fix, but it as worked for me and I was a skeptic. I also am taking a "Pregnancy Prep" supplement that is basically Chasteberry to help get my hormone levels up. A lot of ladies here seem to be taking chasteberry in the form of "Vitex" for the same reasons.
Good luck and keep us updated!
