On that site interesting info. Hv what do you think of what they say regarding turmeric.

The main thing I can say is that they don't have a clue what they are talking about on a lot of the supplements. A few examples:

ClaimSeaweeds can also absorb and concentrate toxic heavy metals such as arsenic from the surrounding seawater. One report suggests that a case of kidney failure was due to the continual long-term use of a bladderwrack product with a high heavy metal content.

Fact: Yes seaweeds contain heavy metals just like the majority of plants we consume.  But plants also contain binders for those metals that help prevent them from being toxic and helps to chelate them out of the body. These are generally pectins and phytates in most plants. In seaweeds the metal binder is algins.

Claim: Powdered alfalfa herb, sprouts and seeds all contain a toxic substance called L-cavanine.

Fact: Canavanine is non-protein amino acid concentrated in the seeds. And yes it can aggravate lupus, which is why alfalfa sprouts are not recommended for people with lupus. But the plant does not generate more canavanine. Therefore as the seed sprouts and grows the canavanine becomes highly diluted. So unless you are eating a truck load of alfalfa a day you are not going to reach a toxicity.

Claim: Turmeric is included in many ‘superfood’ products as an anti-oxidant. However, it contains the toxin curcumin. According to recent research results, “curcumin causes degradation of the human protein, which could accelerate tumor development.”

Fact: First of all curcumin is poorly absorbed. Therefore unless you are injecting the curcumin directly in to the bloodstream there is no real risk of any potential toxicity. On top of that NUMEROUS studies have shown curcumin to INHIBIT cancers through a variety of mechanisms and to support the liver.

Claim: Chlorella is form of blue-green algae marketed as a health supplement which is included in many ‘superfood’ products. The discovery of cyanotoxins and neurotoxins in Klamath Lake (a major source of commercial, blue-green algae), have proved a cause for concern. Cyanotoxins can accumulate in the liver and cause damage over the long term, while neurotoxins can be detrimental to brain cells with prolonged use.

Fact: This is the worst of all their claims. First of all chlorella IS NOT a blue-green algae. Secondly it DOES NOT contain anatoxins or microcystins that cause liver and neural damage. These are found in A. flos-aquae algae from Klamath Lake, which is a blue-green algae. Chlorella is not A. flos-aquae, it is a green algae of the Chlorella species. So they are not even related. Actually A. floa-aquae is not even a true algae, it is a cyanobacteria.

It is bad enough when the government lies about supplements or posts false information. It is even worse when supplement companies cannot get their facts straight.
