Re: Yoga, Detox, and Depression

IMO Yoga should never be fatiguing. The problem is many new styles of Yoga came out in the 80's that wanted to compete with other high intensity health club activities and not look so..weird.

The way I learned Yoga back in the day was to never push to the point of pain, always coordinate very slow movements with your breath (slow inhale for back bends, slow exhale for forward bends etc), and should always be done in a state of mental and bodily relaxation.

THAT's what gets you results. The high intensity stuff looks more impressive to an audience, and less weird in a health club but is counterproductive to proper breathing and conscious muscular relaxation. Think about it - do muscles bend easier when their relaxed or tense?

Personally I would seek out more traditional soft yoga classes, but also do it from home where you can go at your own pace (which is how Yoga should ALWAYS be).

Oh yeah, and a big key is to rest as long after each pose as you do while in it. Doing that will make you feel incredibly relaxed and centered, while going without can make you actually nervous and on edge.

Take SAM-E and do yoga again. SAM-E is anti-inflammatory (for easy bending) calming, and mood enhancing.
