plaque and tartar on teeth

on my bottom front teeth i have some plaque that has hardened to tartar. i absolutely will not go to a dentist. i have a fear of them and besides no coverage anyway. can anyone advise me on how to naturally remove tartar, or even if not naturally home remedies i can do myself. any information would be much appreciated. any advice given me to go to a dr or dentist will be appreciated but disregarded, so please offer only remedies that do not require going to drs.
