Toxin discovered to cause dementia

Has anyone else heard about this new Australian study that discovered alzheimers progresses by toxins in the brain that destroy nerve cells, causes dementia, brain dysfunction and ultimately death??
Apparently, this toxin, qunolinic acid, is part of a biochemical pathway in the brain that gets activated during strokes, major brain diseases, schizophrenia, huntington's disease, and most importantly, dementia. And, most importantly, there is no way treatment available right now. I guess, however, that knowing what causes the problem is the first step to solving it, right???
