HemoDialysis and extreme weakness

Hello. I have found such an incredible sea of good info in this site, a lot of which I have used and has helped me in many respects. This is why I come here to ask about my mother´s current situation.

She is 75 and has less than 3% of the function of one of her kidneys. She has been diabetic for many, many years. Now she is having hemodyalisis since about a year and a half ago. Recently she began to have water in her lungs and very swollen legs. A doctor said that she should have protein to eliminate water from her body. Since she couldn´t eat all what they prescribed for the protein, I advised her to have Spiruline which she is having one table spoon a day. She says her legs are getting better but little by little, but not her lungs (I don´t live in the same city).

She has always been kind of agains the hemo. She was having it twice a week and then she changed to once because she couldn´t take it. About a month ago she began to feel very weak, and then began to recover a bit when she skipped one week of hemo. Then she went to have the hemo yesterday and said she didn´t feel as bad after it, but then today she began to feel very weak again.

She doesn´t trust alopats but doesn´t have a good alternative doctor to guide her. She is a bit abandoned in the medical sense because of this. Could somebody give some advise about this? We live in Mexico and don´t have a lot of money, the bad thing now is that even alternative doctors charge a lot of money. But some direction good be of great help to us.
