Classic. Costochodritis is a diagnosis of exclusion. Meaning they will rule out gall bladder disease and a few other things. Then they just throw that in the diagnosis and boom, you are done. Doctors will tell you, oh well, here are more powerful pain killers, there is nothing else we can do. Then when you have it longer than the usual 4 months that it usually goes away, they start to refer you to a shrink. Insidious. They get to the point they don't even believe you.

My Doctor showed obvious exasperation with my condition and would actually get quite testy with me. Here I was, unable to move, looped out on pain killers, and he would almost yell at me. Told me it was in my head.....well no Doc, this cannot be in my head!!
