Re: intolerance is good! Bingo!...
I'm sure there are those that come here with a bad attitude, but from what I can see, and I know a lot of migrants, both in the town I live in, and in the city I used to live in, and still visit frequently, the vast majority of migrants work hard, educate their children, and obey the laws of our country.
They are very gratefull to be in this country and often become very productive and patriotic citizens. I think you have a very narrow view of immigrants, possibly because you work in an area where you see the worst of people.
There are bad elements in every society, this includes people that were born here, as well as migrants.
I suffered many of the problems of sterotyping and predjudice, as I was a young single mother. The media and various groups in society tried to portray all single mothers as welfare bludgers, popping out children to different fathers, never working and neglecting their children. This media portrayal was very far from the actual truth.
Although there may have been a very small minority of single mothers who behaved this way, the majority were, like myself, hard working, well educated, and good mothers. Its people's narrow minded attitudes and inability to see beyond their own loungerooms, that caused much of the hatred and sterotyping that I recieved.
It saddens me to see anybody labeled and sterotyped, regardless of whether this is in the area of migrants or single mothers, or any other area in society, it makes the person doing the labeling and sterotyping a much diminished person indeed.
