Re: Rapid Heart....I need help

The iron should not affect the heart rate. But this sounds more like an adrenal issue. The reason I asked about the blood pressure is because the heart rate can go up from severe hypotension as well. When the blood pressure drops severely the body is actually going in to shock. The heart speeds up to try and compensate for the decreased blood flow to the organ is due to the decreased pressure. When the blood pressure and heart rate are both high then this is most likely excess epinephrine (adrenaline) being released from the adrenals. The epinephrine not only raises the heart rate, but it also leads to a constriction of the blood vessels, which leads to a rise of blood pressure.

Have you been checked for adrenal tumors? This is the most common reason for excess epinephrine release if this is what is going on.

Tachycardia is also a symptom of hyperthyroidism, so I wonder if you have been checked for this as well? Or if you have hyperthyroid symptoms such as weak bones, elevated body temperature, diarrhea, bulging eyes, etc.

There are various herbs that can help you slow the heart, strengthen the contractions and lower the blood pressure. Most of them contain varying strengths of cardiac glycosides. A better choice though is an herb called coleus forskohlii. It is not a cardiac glycoside, but its effects on the heart are the same. It also helps with many other things in the body. It is best taken with some watercress or nettle leaf to prolong the effects.

If your issue is due to hyperthyroidism then I would still focus on the adrenals and there are herbs that can slow down thyroid function. Some of the best are bugleweed, Melissa (lemon balm), and prunella ("heal-all").
