Re: my story and final true diagnosis
Hv, I have a disorder and over produce insulin, I have had problems with unstable blood sugar my whole life, until I started on supps and herbs last year. My BSL has stablised at around 4-4.8 and remains stable. I had one diabetes specialist tell me that this is way too low, and another say that although lower than average, the fact that I was stable at this level is what is important. Its the fluctuations that cause problems and organ damage. What are your thoughts on this??
Most of the damage is actually from the high insulin, not the glucose. Insulin is a vasodilator in small doses. In high doses though it becomes a powerful vasoconstictor. When it strongly contracts the micro blood vessels this ruptures these blood vessels leading to tissue damage and death. This is what causes the retinopathy, kidney failure and gangrene in diabetics. Type 2 diabetics, the most common form, actually produce way too much insulin in the earlier stages of the disease. Damage to the arteries plays a major role in the development of arteriosclerosis. Fluctuations in the glucose levels leads to spikes in the insulin levels, again causing the damage.
As to why your blood sugar is stabilizing can be easily explained by the fact that you have been strengthening your adrenal glands. As long as the adrenals are functioning properly, if the blood sugar levels drop below normal the adrenals will kick out cortisol in response. The cortisol in turn stimulates the releases of glycogen stored in the liver preventing severe hypoglycemia.
