Re: screaming baby, is it colic?

This usually happens when a baby's tummy is upset and quite often, the intestines are cramping. They don't eat well during this time because they feel bloated. They hurt, they want to eat, but when they try it is just more painful, so they get frustrated and scream. There are several things you can do. There is a formula for colic which uses catnip and fennel - this can safely be given to the baby and will, usually, help to relieve the symptoms. The other thing you can do is rub the baby's abdomen with castor oil, place a hot, wet wash cloth over this - every 5 minutes or so, check to see if the abdomen is still oily - if it isn't, rub more castor oil. Keep the cloth warm and moist. Continue this for about an hour - it will usually promote a bowel movement which will move the gas and bloating through, causing the intestines to relax.
