tooth infection and bowel

Is it possible for your bowel to become infected because of a tooth? I just recently had a root canal repaired due to an infection at the root. I didn't know it was there. Apparently, it had been there for a couple of years. I would occasionally get lower abdomoninal pains. The doc said it was diverticulitus. After some tests, they were found but I still had occasional pains near the inguinal area (no hernia though, already been checked). I have had this tooth taken care of and I'm in the process of healing. It does seem that the pain is lessening down below. I'm still trying to get over the pain in my mouth from the surgery. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Is there a connection between the two?
