Re: Periods after removal
Hello,
Just to weigh in with a little positive information, I have had a lot of trouble getting regular again after any bc I have used. However, I never was regular to begin with, and since I started having periods, have only had 4-5 of them a year, with no rhyme or reason to when they would appear.
Years before Mirena I was on Mircette continuously (no
Sugar pill week) and didn't have any period for over 2 years. After going off Mircette I didn't have a period again for 6 months, and during that dry spell experienced horrific night sweats, acne, hair loss, dandruff, heart palpitations, dry eye, and anxiety. I didn't have insurance at the time, so only went to the doctor once. My blood tests came back normal, but she suggested kickstarting my periods with hormonal therapy. Even back then, before I became a post-mirena hormone expert :) , this didn't sound right to me. I ended up drinking ginger parsley tea for two weeks and my period started again. It took another 6 months getting my cycle in order for these symptoms to go away.
Fast forward, post-Mirena, I am AGAIN experiencing the same side effects, only with GERD, heartburn, and insomnia to boot. I had two periods post-Mirena, and my third never came. I had a saliva/urine test done that shows my estrogen and progesterone to be extremely low (I am 28 years old) and my cortisol is elevated.
My naturopath specializes in hormone balance and suggested natural progesterone cream days 14-28 of my cycle and adrenal support/cortisol suppressive supplement therapy. I was extremely wary of the progesterone cream and didn't use it for a month, but when my period still didn't come (2 months late!) I decided to try it, and I was happy to say that the night sweats, insomnia, and anxiety disappeared, and a normal period came back like clockwork exactly after day 28. Unfortunately my GI symptoms persist. I don't know how long I'm going to stay on the progesterone cream, but for the moment it's helping me. Based on my past experience with hormone crash, I think there's a good possibility that your hormone levels will work themselves out over time. I'm hoping mine will do the same.
If you haven't considered progesterone cream, it may help you. Also, ginger and parsley tea, though it sounds like the easiest thing in the world, has worked like a charm for me getting difficult periods started. Unfortunately, it doesn't help with the night sweats : )
