The problem with labels (liberal versus conservative).
Often time using labels is tempting because we feel we are short of time and labels allow us to make points more quickly.
Here is the problem...labels are only as good as their commonly acknowledged and agreed upon definitions.
What good is using words like liberal or conservative, when everyone's definition of liberal and conservative differ?
This type of behaviors creates enemies out of people who would agree on much if they spoke about ideas rather than labels.
Conservatives as I understand their definition believe in the power of Personal Responsibility.
What is wrong with personal responsibility?
Liberals as I understand their definition believe in helping the poor and the hungry?
What is wrong with helping the poor and the hungry?
Now I agree that the devil is in the details.
What do we do with those who abuse personal freedom to steal things from others or create systems that are stacked unfairly against those who do not have money or power?
If someone steals from me is it my personal responsibility to reclaim my goods or do I rely on the police, and the legal system?
If giving handouts through the government with systems like welfare just creates generations of dependent people who never realize their own power to be self-sufficient, should we continue trying to "help the poor" this way?
Answering these questions can produce a better world...throwing around labels is what we have done in the past with no perceivable results.
