40% alcohol is 80 proof

50% alcohol is 100 proof

95% alcohol is 190 proof

I've heard of 100 proof vodka but I have never seen it. Every vodka I have ever seen is 80 proof which is strong enough for most herbs. I think you need 100 proof for milk thistle and maybe one or two other herbs but I can't remember them at the moment.

If you want stronger than 80 proof you will have to buy everclear and dilute with distilled water.
