sweeping the membranes

Hi Dr Mom, I am now 3 days past my due date. If the labor doesn't start I have an apt. to see my midwife Monday morning. She mentioned sweeping the membranes last time I saw her, but then checked me and I wasn't dilated at all so she didn't do that. If I am dilated when I see her Monday should I do this procedure? I have read that it is painful and not very effective. I'm not sure what to do. Also if she recommends I drink castor oil should I do that? I know that I will get induced if I go more than a certain length of time overdue so want to avoid that if I can. Any advice. Thanks Tweet
