Re: Daughter had reaction from DPT shot
Hi Kelly
my son had an adverse affect to the DPT shot 18 years ago. We were not as lucky as you though, after his first he seemed a little fussy, but nothing out of the ordinary, this is afterall what the doctor told me to expect. The second however, was different. At first he appeared to be fine, but around 12 or so hours later he woke up in the middle of the night, no fever, seemed ok, but as I changed his diaper he started having a seizure... it lasted about 20 minutes, We took him to the ER and by then it had stopped..... very long long story short. He is 18, non-verbal, bowel incontinent, and suffers an intractable seizure disorder. He is the light of my life, was my first born (had him at 20) and seriously, would die without him. We were compensated thorugh the vaccine injury compensation act set up by the US dept of Health, and Andrew was awarded lifetime care. (seriously, keep the money and give me back my little boy) this was a life altering experience, to say the least... even though it has been so long, i still mourn the little boy that God gave me. God Bless you, and please do not ever let them convince you to give her another one.
Two years later I had a little girl, she received all the vaccines except the Pertussis portion and she is 16 y/o now and has had no problems. Oh and needless to say Andrew never received another DPT shot but he did complete the series of the Tetanus and Diptheria, (the DPT without the the P) this was way back whent he petussis was a whole cell killed vaccine, now the acellular is supposed to be safer, but aparently not, breaks my heart still.
good luck to you..
Diana
PS I am not an antivaccine freak, just an unfortunate parent of an even more unfortunate little man.
