Re: Calcium Citrate? for increased pH
Hi
Coral Calcium is primarily Calcium Carbonate.

Coral calcium

Coral calcium is a salt of calcium derived from fossilized coral reefs. Living coral reefs are endangered and cannot be harvested without significant damage to the ecosystem, and because of this, coral calcium is harvested by grinding up above-ground limestone deposits that were once part of a coral reef. Calcium from coral sources needs to be refined to remove pollutants of the source environment. It is marketed as a dietary supplement, but its benefits over other calcium supplements are unproven and biologically unlikely.[1] Additionally, coral near Okinawa has absorbed relatively high amounts of lead and mercury, leading to concern that these unregulated supplements may be contaminated.[2] Further, coral takes millennia to grow, leading to environmental concerns.[2]
Chemistry
Coral calcium is composed primarily of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), with small amounts of magnesium and other trace minerals. Calcium carbonate from coral is similar to calcium carbonate from other sources, with varying amounts of trace minerals.
Much attention has been given to calcium carbonate's ability to change the pH (or alkalinity) of water-based solutions to which it is added. With respect to pH and alkalinity, the calcium component is less important than the carbonate component, which is chemically similar to the bicarbonate in baking soda. Coral calcium is a source of calcium, which is an essential mineral for human life.

It's benefits maybe overstated read this: http://www.curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=1423861#i

I think that it is not the actual amount of calcium that is important here but the alkalinity. Pickling lime is very alkaline. It is this small amount of additional alkalinity added to the water that makes a difference.
It is not just the absorbtion of a mineral such as calcium or magnesium the counts. While the minerals themselves are important, if the mineral is taken in an alkaline form, it will remove acidity from the body.
When calcium is taken in the form of pickling lime, almost 100 percent of it reacts with hydrochloric acid in the stomach, becoming calcium chloride which is highly absorbable. When calcium is taken as calcium carbonate, this reaction with stomach acid is only partial at best, and because it is already a neutralized form, it does not remove acidity.
I do agree that getting your minerals from natural foods is best, pickling lime does help.

What you can do is compare by yourself.
Coral calcium with the elements as suggested by JustinL and then later the Moreless alkalizing drink which has a whole spectrum of minerals. It would be better if you could measure your urine and saliva's pH.
