I've been very fortunate in that although my periods have been irregular and (usually) a long time between them, I haven't suffered bloating or anything like that.

I've been able to deal with things with no medical intervention at all. I realise that not everyone's as fortunate on that count.

Of course, there's a problem with facial hair because it does create a masculine appearance -- people don't expect a woman to wear a moustache or beard. That problem in my case is compounded by the fact that, unlike my sister who flouted convention for years and let her moustache grow, I'm flat chested so either have to pad out or look "strange" in the eyes of most people. I solve the facial hair problem by shaving which is totally non-interventionist in a medical sense and I try to create a more female general appearance by wearing my hair long and (usually) wearing a skirt.

I'm more or less reconciled to the fact that there's no way that I'll ever be "normal" and I've simply defined the limits of the extent to which I'll go to conform to the expectations of the wider world.
