Facial hair can be very distressing and I can well understand someone with a heavy growth being grateful for something that can reduce or largely eliminate it. But the point you make is an important one. Is it wise to commit oneself to a lifetime of taking a drug which has other effects, some of which are not necessarily recognized?
To me, if the problem is not a life-threatening one the logical course of action is to take the least invasive approach. With shaving, there's no risk involved.
