Recently diagnosed with herpes simplex 2 and looking for treatment suggestions.

Hi everyone...

I was recently diagnosed with genital herpes and given a prescription for valtrex which I found out when trying to fill it that it is not covered by my benefits and I can not afford to pay full price for.

Now I'm unfortunately stuck waiting for my regular doctor to return from vacation so that I can discuss my options with her.

My issue at this point, is without the Valtrex I am not treating the infection and I understand it will likely get worse before it heals and goes dormant.

Aside from trying to deal with the severe emotional distress I'm experiencing over this diagnosis, it is also incredibly painful, so much so that simply urinating burns the spots so badly that I feel nauseated and dizzy.

Does anyone know of an affordable treatment to help alleviate this pain until I can see my doctor? I've been trying zinc diaper rash cream to create a 'barrier' (as suggested by the doctor I saw) but it is not helping at all. I desperately need some sort of help with this.

Thank you.
