I've no personal experience of threading, but what it's doing is effectively the same as plucking and waxing, i.e. pulling the hair out from the follicle by the root.

That's what's liable to happen if you keep on pulling hairs out from the same follicle -- eventually the follicle itself is liable to get distorted and the hair doesn't lie the same way as adjacent hairs. It's very noticeable in the moustache -- in a moustache that's never been plucked, all the adjacent hairs lie neatly in the same direction. In one that's been repeatedly plucked for years they seem to be growing in all directions.
