No, not necessarily... there is a lack of microorganisms that complete mineral/element/gas cycles as fixers from the inorganic forms of these substances into the complexed carbon based organic forms.

If possible, plant edible landscaping... indigenous plants and varieties of fruit trees, vines and bushes would be a good start and take little maintenance effort relatively speaking...

Barring that, search out sources... there are internet sites available for finding farmers markets and pick your own farms in your area... especially if you are in the U.S.

Only purchase in season local foods when possible... this will reduce costs substantially as well.

Avoid imports from other countries...
