There is some standard information that has been propagated in the aquarium industry for years. Since many of the fish that people are trying to keep are from the Amazon and since the pH of the Amazon water is so low. Many people attempt to lower the pH in their fish tank with peat to duplicate the water conditions.

There is a "new" school of thought that a higher pH with sufficient supplies of calcium and magnesium in the water (sound familiar) would be optimal but old habits die hard.

Answer: I have some Commercial Fishermen who are my friends and we have talked about Why sometimes of the year they can catch fish etc in the ocean around the gulf shores and Why other times there are --NO-- Fish to be found!

The 1st thing I asked them was does this problem of the Fish leaving have anything to do with when it rains on the sorrounding land that drains into the Gulf?

I told them the problem was more than likely when it rained on the Land up river of dumping fresh waters into the Gulf and bringing Toxic Nitrogen waste into the Ocean!

Because of this Toxic Nitrogen Waste the Ocean waters close to where this fresh sewage water was dumping into the ocean would then become too Acidic , thus short of needed Oxygen for the Fish and other Life to exist!

After they thought about it for awhile they said that this was Exactly when they could not find the Better Fish near shore to catch!

They could find some of the Sewage cleaners of the ocean, but NOT the Better Quality Fish!
