Re: Opinions, Please
Hi, Belle,
Once upon a time, some men decided to try something new and different -- to establish a modern republic with as little government interference in the lives of that republic's citizens as possible.
Then, as happens over and over throughout history, ignorant and/or malicious individuals corrupted the system, bit by bit by bit.
Now, today, we have the result of 200+ years of corruption of those ideals , and the rate of corruption is accelerating dramatically.
Most of the rest of the world has a pretty good idea what the US government is up to, and there are many groups who hate the US
with good cause. The US is
not the caretaker of the world. It's mostly just a big bully internationally -- except that this bully doesn't just bloody your nose; he kills your friends and family, then puts his buddies in charge and tells you to like it or else. Check out:

You'll note that both of these web sites exist outside the United States. (There are plenty more; check your favorite web index.) Within the United States, most people remain ignorant of the atrocities commited by the US government, which is just the way the US government likes it. While we have freedom of the press, the press is owned, and it serves its masters. Few of us go out looking for balanced coverage of anything, blindly accepting whatever MSNBC and CNN have to say about something.
When we do go looking for it, the overwhelming volume of negative information about the ruling class of the USA is tough to take. And should anyone who has gotten the scope of the problem attempt to discuss it with others, those others are mostly well programmed to respond with "stupid
Conspiracy nut" or some such.
*sigh*
Ignorance is bliss...
There is a lot more to this War on Terror(TM) than any of us is being told by those who seek to pursue this war.
But mostly, it's about the oil.
