Re: Definition of Bloating: Strictly Associated w/ Gas?

I can't imagine what bloating (as defined by some kind of swelling) would be if it wasn't "gas". The only other ways I can think of for one to 'swell' would be edema (generally not in the digestive tract), a blockage, or some kind of growth or tumor.

One doesn't have to burp or have flatulence to have gas & bloating. We're dealing with 25-30+ feet of extremely convoluted tubing.

In those that aren't having bms 3x daily, there IS ALWAYS gas.
Imagine eating (chewing and mixing foods & juices with saliva/digestive enzymes), but instead of swallowing the entire meal, spit it into a glass jar (oh sure, throw some IF#2 in there, too), and seal it tightly - shake it up and put it in a dark oven at 100 degrees. Oh yeah, in 8 hours, you WILL have gas (and lots of it) - if you continued to add 'a meals worth' two more times in a day and put the jar in the oven overnight, it's likely the jar would explode overnight.

Rotting food gives off a LOT of gas, and when that's added to a layer of putrefying mucoid plaque (that *constantly* gives off gas) - and 30 feet of convoluted tubing that's constricted, impacted, stiffened and does NOT squeeze like it's supposed to?...

Oh yeah, you've got gas and bloating - and the cause is NOT necessarily what is eaten, but how fast it moves along (along with how impacted/coated with mucoid plaque & hardened fecal matter the tubing is). And an enema that impacts the last 6-8 inches isn't likely to be much help.

Blessings -

Uny
