But it brings up a basic question I have in response to many of the explanations of why UT works. The article says:
"certain bodily substances which have been removed from the body, some of which may have been produced as a result of illness, are reintroduced into the body in small amounts. These substances are reabsorbed into the blood through either the intestines or the skin. According to this hypothesis, the immune system is then given the chance to react appropriately."
But if these bodily substances are in the bloodstream originally, then why would the immune system "react appropriately" when they get back into the bloodstream after UT????
Also, regarding the article's note about bladder cancer, I recently read that chemicals from smoking are processed in the kidneys (unlike most other bad stuff, which is cleaned out by the liver). This may be one reason that smoking is associated with bladder cancer. And would be a reason not to smoke if you are doing UT - as if you needed another reason...
