so *much* better from the tree! ( and what a lovely childhood experience. thanks for sharing that. :-) I grew up on much of the usual junk of the late fifties, when people actually bought stuff like those bags of margarine with the little dye button, that you kneaded until it turned yellow.) Thankfully, my mother grew a garden and preferred veg. to meat, and even ate fiddleheads we grew long before anyone would dream of doing that.
I don't think most of us have any idea of the actual value of eating from the tree. The just-picked fruit is still alive,
(a warm tomato off the vine also can't be beat) and loaded with energy we have no instruments to truly measure.
Most of what we find in stores is the equivalent of unripe, since it was picked unripe. :-(
