The Sims position has long been one of the most widely used positions for hospital enemas and is the first
choice for position by many experienced nurses and others in the health care professions. It is also
appropriate for personal home use, especially on the bed with the enema bag suspended about 1 1/2 feet
above the hips, a pad underneath, and a blanket or comforter as a covering. With the shutoff positioned just
right, the left hand can be used to control the inflow.
This is my personal favorite position for enemas, although I usually flex my right knee a bit more than in the figure above. It is also the one I usually use for the patients I treat when the doctor orders an enema. If you haven't already, give it a try for your next enema.
