Re: Alcoholic friend wants to start...thoughts

Detoxing a alcoholic is quit different that detoxing your average junk food eater. Had he detoxed before? Many people need to be hospitalized for this. Withdrawal seizures and delirium tremors, erratic behavior to transient psychotic episodes may occur. Because alcoholics get the bulk of their nutrition from whatever they drink they are usually malnourished in one way or another. I don't mean to be an alarmist, and I think this could work for him, but I think it deserves a lot more thought and consideration than a non-dependent person would need. Perhaps a month of ensuring high quality foods, raw greens, nuts, organic meats and cheeses in moderation, fishes, lots of water, fruits and veggies as well as cutting down the booze. And when he's going through the cleanse, don't leave him alone, even if he's doing fine, because in the middle of the night when everyone else is sleeping, he might need supports.
