Re: Help with buy Jars for storing Juices
Emmah,
Hey girl, I went all over the Net trying to find Mason jars, Kerr, or Ball canning jars in the UK and couldn't find a single source. Not even at AmazonUk. Yes, canning jars are "food preserving jars," which appear to center on jams, marmalades, honey, and pickles over there across the pond.
The "best" jars to use have metal lids with two parts- a flat circle with a good rubber (or rubber-like) seal around the circumference of the underneath-side, and a metal ring that you screw on to the jar to get a good, tight seal.
If you can't get that, no worries, you do the next best thing. You use regular jam jars with tight-fitting lids. If you use these, you want to be sure there's no paper or plastic liner stuck in the underneath of the lid.
What you'll do is fill your jar all the way up to the top to where it forms a tiny dome over the edge of the jar- you know, brimming. Then you'll place the lid on the jar, and a little juice will spill out as you screw the lid on. You rinse and wipe the jars, and place them in the refrigerator. These will keep for up to three days.
I'm so glad you're about to do some serious juice fasting. You'll be amazed.
Texas-sized hugs,
Wings
