Re: Excessive hairloss & my TSH results

Hi! I am just curious how you are doing? I just read your post. I too am hypothyroid Hashimoto and have had excessive hair loss. My dermatologist after two years of seeing 6 Endocronologist and another dermatologist twice agreed with me that it is a mixture of thyroid AND the T4 Thyroid medication! (Synthroid)

She put me on 5000 mg of Biotin which I had to special order! and two months later that is not helping ...yet!

but I just wanted to say that I had hair loss before I too went off of my meds last year. I went off of my meds because I am sensitive to them. My TSH was 6.7 but I was having heart palps chest pains anxiety, and all the Endos I saw insisted on Synthroid and raising the meds, and I couldn't do it. I tried Armour, which can have too much T3 for some people, but works great for others... then stopped alltogether.

Anyway, I've lost half my hair and having a problem raising the meds. Everyone is different, and has different issues here because there is so much involved with Thyroid and Hormones etc. Just found out my progesterone is low...but taking that is worse! LOL and the hair is falling out worse.

Not sure if you're aware but wanted to tell you that your iron (Ferritin) level should be checked. I take Evening Primrose Oil also, And yes!!! Some hyperthyroid symptoms are the same as hypothyroid symtpoms....and one of those is hair loss. And a good doctor will check all of your T3 and T4...Free and not and not only go by a TSH score! but listen to your symptoms. It has been a rough two years for me but I know eventually this has to get worked out no matter how long it takes!! A good website is about.thyroid.com She's got great books too!!!

Best of luck to you!!
