Re: Colon Impaction of Octogenarian with malnutrition and dehydration
Hi:
A
colonic would be too stressful according to the gastroenterologist. Fortunately, very erarly this morning she had her first normal bowel movement without fleet enemas or citrate magnesium. We're up to eight capsules of intestinal formula # 1 and will stay there to see if that's the right number.
We've jucing two fruits in the morning, three vegetables which include one large tomato, and two fruits (different from the morning) at supper time.
At this time, I prefer she have animal fats because she weighs some where between 85 and 95
lbs. She's lost about 50 to 60
lbs. in the three years she's lived with my sister.
The name Gloria Gilberre doesn't mean anything to me. But I appreciate the suggestion. I'm just following Shultze's format and providing her at present 1600 calories plus 72 grams of protein. She'll be up to 2000 calories by next week. She's also getting Gatorade at the suggestion of the MD. Although they have her on Digitalis, it seems to have eliminated a tendency for fast heart beats. Once her colon problem is ok she can be weaned away from that.
As far as fats go, she's not getting any other than from regular food which she can easily swollow when she wants to. She eats Tomato Zuchinni Soup, Turkey sandwich, etc.
But, the quantities are very small. She's getting most of her nourishment from the PEG.
