Re: Optimum weekly transdermal dosage
I also had the same problem.
I had been taking about 500mg. of magnesium orally before I found out about the transdermal magnesium oil. So I thought that I would add the transdermal magnesium to my oral supplement. The first time I did it, I found I got constipated, and my muscles were tightening, and the horrible "agitated" feeling was increasing.
Calcium is said to "excite" the nerves, and magnesium is said to calm the nerves. Too much calcium supplements can cause constipation. Hummmmmm... I wonder...
In my reading, one site said that when we are born we have more magnesium in our cells, but many things can deplete the magnesium. The cells eventually get full of calcium in the place of the magnesium that should be there. And magnesium deficiencies can cause horrific symptoms.
If our goal is to replace the proper magnesium content of the cells by magnesium supplementation, then as the magnesium is pulled into the cell, would not calcium be displaced from the cell? If we are only supplementing magnesium orally, perhaps the body can handle the amount of calcium that is being displaced, because we are not taking in that much magnesium daily, and some is being lost through the digestive process. BUT, If we are overloaded with calcium, and then all of a sudden we get all of this good magnesium through our skin that our bodies desparately need, and it is being rushed into the cells, could the forced exit of the calcium into our tissues, or our blood, or over the nerves, cause us some of the symptoms that prompted us to take the magnesium in the first place?
I got my magnesium oil from a tofu manufacturer (premium food grade quality nigari). I believe it was a higher concentration than what is suggested for magnesium oil. And my spray bottle may have sprayed much more in a spray, so I may have gotten way too much each time I applied it. So, I have stopped the transdermal application until I can find out the proper ratio of water to magnesium chloride, and correct the ratio of my solution.
I am now taking "Natural Calm" magnesium citrate (about 600mg), and I am almost over all of the weird symptoms that came along with the panic attacks and anxiety (the intense agitation of my nerves, the constant self monitoring of how my body felt, and the weird way my brain operated). But if I forget the magnesium in the morning, then the edge comes back slightly. I am hoping to learn what I need to do so that I can more effectively re-adjust my body's store of magnesium through the transdermal method.
I would appreciate any feedback by knowledgable people on my "calcium displacement" "theory", and the agitation that
Cheshire77 and I experienced.
I found out about the magnesium connection to the anxiety/panic attacks when my naturopath tested me and found I hardly had any estrogens in my system. She said, "No wonder you are feeling so bad!" Searching the internet I found that low estrogens usually meant low magnesium. Looking up 'magnesium deficiency' I found all of my symptoms on the lists! Before the tests came back I was put on an adrenal support. After the tests, I was put on a bio-identical estrogen/progesterone cream, along with the adrenal support. But I think that the magnesium really helped. What hasn't gotten better yet are the 4:00am waking up in the middle of the night, with a "wide awake" brain . I have started taking about 100mg. of the calcium citrate when I wake up. It helps "quiet" my brain, and helps me go back to sleep faster. But I found that when I finally wake up about 7:30, I am really feeling more tired, tight, and it takes longer to get going. So if anyone has any ideas about how to end the middle of the night waking episodes, I would welcome suggestions.
