Re: Fasting Verses Starvation
Hello Carlosronk,
the recommended daily intake of Vitamin C that you have quoted is only the amount needed by the body in the prevention of scurvy, and does not represent the optimal amount.
In eons past the human body (along with guinea pigs) lost its ability to manufacture its own ascorbate (Vitamin C), unlike other animals who manufacture their own via a bodily synthesis, to the human equivalent of approx' 4000mg (4Grams) per day.
Supplementation of Ascorbate is therefore essential in the prevention of heart and other diseases, as recommended by Linus Pauling, Dr M Rath MD and Dr Steve Hickey PhD. This is explained more than adequately via Dr Hickeys book "Ascorbate: The
Science of Vitamin C": the most recent research available.
Dr Hickey is a Medical-Biophysicist at the University of Manchester in the UK.
The sources quoted that state synthetic forms of ascorbate are not used by the body is i'm afraid complete nonsense, as BOTH synthetic forms and natural forms are chemically identical.
Just one example: Dr Hickeys sister was born with "Eisenmenger-Syndrome" which is a serious heart condition...................
http://rarediseases.about.com/od/rarediseasese/a/112404.htm
She was not expected to live beyond her mid twenties, but at the age of 43 was just barely alive and housebound in Germany, with all of its accompanying symptoms: extreme shortness of breath on the slightest exertion, blue lips, pale complexion and so on. An invalid.
Dr Hickey contacted her after his years of extensive research on ascorbate and advised her to take 24 Grams of synthetic ascorbate (the non-acidic form) but as magnesium ascorbate or sodium ascorbate, which should not be confused with ascorbic-acid, divided into 3 equal doses in a 24 hour period.
Within 3 months she could walk 3 miles per day with ease, her lips were pink and she had attained a normal complexion with normal energy levels. This was her ONLY lifestyle change.
She was out shopping one day and was noticed by a friend who she had not seen in a long time, and who was amazed at her health transformation.
During their conversation Dr Hickeys sister took another 8 Grams of ascorbate, and after explaining what she was doing came the reply..........are you sure that is alright............you could make yourself ill !!!!
The therapeutic value of ascorbate is in what are considered to be megadoses, but which in reality meet the normal biological needs of the body, and which is just not available from food in sufficient amounts.
In addition the only items missing from synthetic ascorbate are the bioflavonoids, which can also be supplemented if required.
I take 4000 to 5000mg of Magnesium Ascorbate per day in supplemental form, and have done so for the last 4 to 5 years with only added and distinct benefit.
Beware of " nutritional-experts" who do not know WHAT they are talking about..............and I don't mean me!!!!!
