Thanks for sharing all of that, it's pretty interesting. I checked out the links too, because I really haven't heard any of these unpleasant effects before and read a bunch of the posts.

I think that because the Mirena has so much less circulating hormone than the pill (about 1/10th the dose in the blood) it's easy to remember 'tiny dose of hormones' and forget that some people react to even a small dose of synthetic hormones in violent ways.

I imagine that it's like pollen in the spring. Most people love spring and it's a beautiful experience, but for me, there have been times where the tiniest bit of pollen from some tree I was allergic to created a HUGE multisystem response in my body...the tiniest amount!!!!

I wonder if it's like that for women who have some innate reaction to the levonorgestrel or something in the plastic structure of the Mirena IUD. If so, the place to catch that might be with someone who does muscle testing for allergies (like the NAET practitioners - NAET.COM) - they would probably catch an allergy if that is what this is, and be able to treat it as well (to get rid of any residual symptoms that could be the body overreacting to the insult...) Just a thought.

Anyway, this is not what I am studying right now. Instead I am looking at the contraceptive mechanism of action for the Mirena - to see if it changes the cervical mucus so that it prevents sperm from swimming through. However, it's not a bad idea to look into these things, and I will certainly be listening for significant side effects from here on in -
