My teen son has single handedly kept our local one open—literally! He's always needing weird components for his mad scientist experiments. The schools' science classes are regularly making field trips to our house, where we built him a workshop just to try to contain the experiments. Radio Shack is his absolute favorite store.
Sadly, the local one is going to be closing in about 8 months, because the owners want to retire, and one over-exuberant customer isn't enough for them to choose to hire an employee to oversee it while they retire.
Actually, the one that boggles my mind is Best Buy. Their Geek Squad don't know squat, and most of what they sell computer-wise is junk that won't work right or don't last.
