Re: what ph tester to get?
The text makes it sound worst than it is. Also, not all pH meter requires 2 calibrations, some require only one.
So, before buying one, it may be a good idea to look at the manual on line to have a good idea how the device will operate.
Good idea to check how long the electrode will lasts and cost to replace.
Nevertheless, if one insists on having a pH meter, I don’t think an expensive one is required. There is a wide variety; some have memory, so results can be uploaded to a pc. Some cheap ones will cost less than the electrode replacement to some expensive ones. Maybe a good idea is to buy a cheap one to see how it goes and see if one likes it?
My only advice is if it is battery operated; buy one that use the most common ones like AA or AAA. Don’t buy those that use Sr41/Sr44 like batteries. In the beginning I bought a hand held pH meter that required the Sr kind of batteries. They did not seem to last long. They are expensive and sometimes hard to find. Now, I am pretty satisfied with pH paper.
Other advantage to paper strips, they are light and don't take much room. You can carry it with you. Have some at work. ...

Hope this helps a bit.
