That's a brilliant idea to dry herbs in a closet. I never thought of that. My new home has a garage with large windows. Too big to try to block out the morning sun. So, I don't bother with drying anymore. It doesn't hurt to have some light though. We use to do it in an old barn that not only let in some light; but the outside hot and cold too.
