Re: Please stop with the ADDS for LUGOL's IODINE
I appreciate everyone who posts on this forum. Each have differing experiences and add to the flavor. It does not bother me so much that there would be some few indiscretions.
I was an early and eager participant in the "iodine support" forum. I was also the earliest poster on the
Miracle-Mineral-Supplement forum. I tend to favor
Miracle-Mineral-Supplement from my experience; a longer experience.
Iodine and
Miracle-Mineral-Supplement are each broad spectrum antimicrobials - anticeptics. They function differently; but seem to come to the same conclusion; a clean nonresistant kill. There has been enough study to know that MMS (chlorine dioxide) kills by striping electrons from its target and kills itself in the process (ion exchange); so MMS does not last very long. There does not seem to be enough study to know how
Iodine works. Some study indicates that it changes the genes of cells, specifically
Breast Cancer (see quote below).
Iodine last longer in the body; but takes longer to do its function as well. Not so with MMS. Fast and furious.
It come down to a personal choice.
Iodine is a mineral element. MMS is not.
The key unknown has been the process through which molecular iodine works. Recent research has uncovered important new insights into the mechanism of action of molecular iodine. For example, researchers at Drexel University College of Medicine have been investigating the biochemical pathways of iodine metabolism in the breast. Their most recent work demonstrates that molecular iodine alters the gene expression profile in the human
Breast Cancer cells (MCF-7). Dr. Bernard Eskin remarked that "these changes may be responsible for molecular iodine's inhibition of
Breast Cancer promotion" that has been repeatedly observed in animal models.

See how iodine can be slower in its activity:
Gottardi W
Chapter 8 in Block, SS. Disinfection, Sterilization, and Preservation, 4th edition. Lea & Febiger, 1991, pp 152-165.
"Iodine is an excellent prompt effective microbicide with a broad range of action that includes almost all of the important health-related microorganisms, such as enteric bacteria, enteric viruses, bacterial viruses, and protozoan cysts.... Mycobacteria and the spores of bacilli and clostridia can also be killed by iodine... Furthermore, iodine also exhibits a fungicidal and trichomonacidal activity.... As is expected, varying amounts of iodine are necessary to achieve complete disinfection of the different classes of organisms. Within the same class, however, the published data on the disinfecting effect of iodine correspond only to a small extent. In particular, the published killing times of spores... and viruses... are widely disparate. One reason for this might be the non-uniform sensitivity of microorganisms to iodine, which applies not only to the type of organism but also to the growth conditions.... Bacterial isolates... from water systems disinfected by iodine showed differences (which had, however, not always the same sign) of up to 4 logs decrease after contact with iodine... if grown in brain heart infusion or after cultivation in phosphate buffer....
