First, you don't have to be having an outbreak for a blood test to work. The blood tests look for the presence of antibodies that your immune system produces when the virus is present.

The symptoms you describe don't sound like anything typical of herpes. Generally there's at least itching, if not rawness or other discomfort.

It could be a lot of things other than herpes.
