Re: Fuhrman Diet, Day 5

Hi Willow,

Thanks for popping in to say hi. :) About your questions, no side effects. Keep in mind where I'm coming from vs. people leading a very toxic life style with a lot of weight. Side effects on a diet will be like fasting but the detox should be less intense as it is a slower detox. You should have an idea what you may experience from fasting. I don't do coffee or soda so that helps - I have little side effects fasting and none eating well. I also reduced my cravings fasting so for me with 2 1/2 days of fasting then starting the diet, I didn't have any cravings the whole time. Usually a few days after trying to break the fast on mostly fruit I start to crave and have troulbe turning down grains & favorite foods. This time eating a high quantity of spinach and dark greens with beans to help keep me full, I've not had cravings and I've been plenty full. So things are going good! :-D

As for weight, I'm 5'8" and my weight beginning fast was probably low 180's. I had actually gotten off vacation so perhaps I was about 183? I'm usually around there. Keep in mind that I have a thick frame - I look hot at 160 and 150 I would be veeeery skinny - possibly the ideal weight for me. I wouldn't know - 160 is my lowest. I strut and show belly at 160. SO, I've 20 lbs to lose, maybe a few more if I want to get a bit thinner. I fasted 2 1/2 days, then spent 5 days on the diet. So maybe 2-3 lbs stuck from fasting. I weighed in this morning at 176. That's GOOD for someone working on their last 20! It's about 5 lbs or so. The fasting wouldn't account for that so my #'s are definitely going down. *yay* I've been thinking about maintenance diet and I can see myself eating this way during the day with evening meals often being more traditional for hubby but high on the greens. Like a big salad and some chicken or big side of greens and meat or potato dish, or rice. I will stay as strict as I need to keep the cravings away. It's not as strict as he suggests with 90% plant foods but I might stay at about 70% which gets me a lot of nutrition. Besides, I like how I look at 160 so if 150 is my ideal weight, there is some wiggle room in terms of looks. ;-)

Oh, by the way, about salad dressings, I have made the one concession on this diet that I have to like the salad dressings. I don't like a lot of vinegar based dressings and I don't particularly enjoy spending the time to make them at home although I may try it. I decided for my lazy self, that I would allow myself low cal non oil based dressings at the health food store. I'm eating less on the salad and enjoying the natural flavors a bit more, but I still use some. I find that I like sweet dressings that are based on red wine vinegar and fruit. There is a papaya seed dressing and a pomegranate dressing at my health food store that are both based on red wine vinegar and they taste good. If that's the one concession that has people eating bowls full of greens, it's worth it! I use 1-2 tablespoons and cals are 100 per serving or less. Hey, I'm still losing weight and feeling good. :-)

Anyway, sorry so long. Have a great day!
