Re: Water Fast Day 1
Thank you for your insights:
I posted this response at the end of the thread:
Here are some varying opinions that are 'floating' out there...
Lots of contradictory perspectives on pros and cons of Distilled, Ionized, Alcaline, Brita ect.
I like the idea of water that is indigenous to your region, think I may try the alcalyzing process. May go up the mountain today to collect some known pure BC elixir!
From Freedomfromyoufasting Site:
Water Fasting Tips
1. Avoid water straight from the faucet. Distilled water is the best for cleansing because of its inherent, magnetic properties and ability to absorb and suspend large quantities of toxins, flushing them from the body. The perceived value of mineral water is misleading because the inorganic minerals are like huge boulders to the cellular membranes, making them impossible to assimilate. Plants are able to break down the minerals from the soils, allowing them to be completely absorbable to the cells of the body. The best water is distilled, secondly, spring or filtered. A Brita Filtration System is inexpensive and effective, but change the filter regularly.
Distilled Water Pros and cons
Pros:
Distillation kills and removes bacteria, viruses, cysts and heavy metals. Although there is some debate about the effects of distilled water removing beneficial minerals as well as these disease forming metals and germs, it is useful to note that the mineral content in water is so minute that one would have to drink approximately six-hundred 8oz glasses of water to attain the RDA of calcium and 1,800+ glasses to fulfil their daily requirement of magnesium.
Another common myth surrounding distilled water is that it leaches minerals from the body. This is not only false, but impossible. The human body is incredibly efficient and effective and in no way could allow water to force out essential body elements. What distilled water does do, is transport inorganic minerals and toxins out of the body, helping to cleanse and purify the body's internal environment.
Distilled water also has more oxygen ions and fewer hydrogen ions, making the water far less acidic and more alkaline than other types of water.
Cons:
Water Cure s, but purified water is a detriment to the health of anyone who consumes it. Purified water is produced by deionization, distillation or reverse osmosis and should not be consumed for three reasons. It acidifies the body, leaches minerals from the body and the large size and shape of its water molecule clusters do not hydrate the body well. In fact, long-term use of purified water can leave us dehydrated.
“Fasting using distilled water can be dangerous because of the rapid loss of electrolytes
(sodium, potassium, chloride) and trace minerals like magnesium, deficiencies of which can cause heart beat irregularities and high blood pressure. Cooking foods in distilled water pulls the minerals out of them and lowers their nutrient value.” v
One person’s black hair turned gray after only two weeks on a distilled-water fast
because copper, which is used to form hair pigment, was leached from his body. Years later, his hair still had not fully regained its color and was left 60% more gray than before the distilled water fast. His planned six week fast had to be cut short to two weeks when he began experiencing trembling and short-term memory loss because of electrolyte depletion. While purified water can remove toxins, it will also take with it vital minerals and other elements important to the body, which can promote osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and a hsince minerals are used in virtually every metabolic process of the body.
“The longer one drinks distilled water, the more likely the development of mineral
deficiencies and an acid state. I have done well over 3000 mineral evaluations using a
combination of blood, urine and hair tests in my practice. Almost without exception, people who consume distilled water exclusively, eventually develop multiple mineral deficiencies.” viii
Leaning toward:
The ideal water for the human body should be alkaline and this requires the presence of minerals like calcium and magnesium.
How Can I Increase the Alkalinity of my Water?
Using home water distillers, purifiers or ionisers will give you pure water with varying degrees of alkalinity. To further increase the alkalinity of your drinking water the either of the following are recommended:
- squeezing fresh lemon or lime juice into the water
- adding an alkalizing, pH boosting supplement to the water such as Alkalive pH Booster
