Re: B-1, B-2/Adrenals

>>>The thing I rembember about Adrenals/Thyroid is that if you have a problem with your adrenals you have to work on those first, as supplementing thyroid can further stress the adrenals.

That's the interesting thing about his reason for checking the thyroid levels, not to address the thyroid itself, but to watch what the thyroid is doing by working on the Axis glands (hypothalmus/pituitary/adrenals). He doesn't read the results the same as a medical Dr would. According to MD's, my dad is "an amazingly healthy 78 year old man"..the adrenal saliva test showed he was just about a dead man, with adrenals barely working.

Look at all the people that MD's have on thyroid medications, with no consideration of any of the other glands.

I have this printed out, because it is excellent information about the liver- and I've read, and reread it- NOW I'm seeing this that I hadn't noticed before regarding B-2:

>>>>An efficient liver detoxification system is vital to health and in order to support this process it is essential that many key nutrients are included in the diet. Vitamins and minerals – particularly the B vitamins – play a major role, acting as cofactors for many enzyme systems including those of liver detoxification, therefore ensuring a plentiful supply of the B complex group of vitamins is of prime importance for optimum detoxification..Depletion of vitamin C may also impair the detoxification process; vitamin C also prevents free radical formation. Vitamin E and selenium are cofactors for glutathione peroxidase activity as well as being powerful antioxidants. Other nutrients which play vital roles in the Phase II pathway include amino acids glycine, cysteine, glutamine, methionine, taurine, glutamic acid and aspartic acid.

>>>>The elimination of fat-soluble compounds, especially heavy metals like mercury and lead, is dependent upon adequate levels of glutathione, which in turn is dependent upon adequate levels of methionine and cysteine. When increased levels of toxic compounds are present, more methionine is utilized for cysteine and glutathione synthesis. Methionine and cysteine have a protective effect on glutathione and prevent depletion during toxic overload. This, in turn, protects the liver from the damaging effects of toxic compounds and promotes their elimination.

>>>Inhibitors of phase II detoxification enzymes
Glutathione conjugation: Selenium deficiency, vitamin B2 deficiency, glutathione deficiency, zinc deficiency

Amino acid conjugation: Low protein diet

Methylation: Folic acid or vitamin B12 deficiency

Sulfation: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g. aspirin), tartrazine (yellow food dye), molybdenum deficiency

Acetylation: Vitamin B2, B5, or C deficiency

Glucuronidation: Aspirin, probenecid
