It's probably the best and top blender out there. It's really popular with the raw foodists. It's really powerful and will last a long time if you'll be using it on a daily basis.
Honestly though, if you already have a decent blender and you just want to blend smoothies and soups, a regular blender can handle it. I have a regular blender from the department store that is also made for chopping ice..so it has no problem chopping up nuts, making "soups" or smoothies. I've made tomato "soup" with my blender, it's all about using the right power to blend it. Like mine can "blend" "liquify" "Shred"..etc.
A Vitamix won't "juice" though.. it blends. The difference is with the blender you don't remove the fiber. If you want to drink juice, get a juicer.
