Why No Studies?
After being referred to a surgeon after a preliminary diagnosis of
Gallstones some years ago, I drove home and discovered Dr. Clark's
Liver Flush at the CureZone. Finding relief, since then, I've been doing a liver cleanse whenever my symptoms flare up, and have always good results as far as relief of symptoms. I have yet to do a systematic series of cleanses, but meanwhile, I have yet to show up for my appointment with the surgeon either.
In researching the debate on whether the liver cleanse acutally purges gallstones, it strikes me how few studies are cited by either side, pro or con. For instance here at the CureZone, from my reading, the pro side seems long on anecdotal evidence but short on clinical or controlled studies, and the con side seems long on windy arguments but likewise short on clinical or controlled studies.
The best documentation I've been able to find is pathetic, really. A link at the Wikipedia article on
Gallstones takes you to an article by an MD who cites a couple of documented clinical cases -- one that showed negative results after one cleanse (reference: Sies CW, Brooker J. Could these be gallstones? Lancet 2005;365:1388.), and one that showed positive results from one cleanse (reference: Br J Surg 1992;79:168).
Two cases, one cleanse each, separated by 13 years. Hardly a systematic study. If there are better studies out there, I'd appreciate being pointed towards them.
Whether the liver cleanse works should be a straightforward experimental subject. To me it's appalling, with all the anecdotal evidence, that this the effectiveness of the liver cleanse remains a mystery.
Sorry, I don't get it.
