Re: Hormone Replacement Therapy Doubles Breast Cancer Risk

there have been lots of studies since the early part of the decade, when HRT was really hot, and the consensus in the big bad western medical arena is that HRT with estrogen alone leads to increased risk of uterine cancer, combo therapy with progesterone and estrogen leads to higher risk of invasive breast CA and stroke, and a higher risk of clots

in essence the only good thing HRT is good for is effective symptomatic relief for menopausal symptoms , which for some women is worth it, and recommendations are not to exceed treatment past 5 years

also, a lot of the studies included women who were smokers, which increases the risk of stroke, heart disease, breast cancer

ironically, smoking seems to reduce the risk of uterine Cancer

the recommendations are pretty much that in otherwise healthy women, HRT can be used, but not over 5 years, and that you should definitely consider risk vs benefit if there are other medical conditions present
