how do i get off hydracortisone with adrenal fatigue?
I was put on 5 mg of hydracortisone 4 X a day many years ago by an alternative doctor. When my other docs found out they insisted I get off it, which I now agree with. I had already been on about 3 months, and by the time I tried to get off, my body was dependent. It took two years to wean off and it was hell. Each time I reduced the dose be .25 mg, my body went into adrenal insufficiency and it took weeks for it to adjust.
I was unable to get below 3 mg. without severe problems, and I've been on that dose for many years. I have symptoms of too much cortisol, and oddly, I also feel I have symptoms of adrenal insufficiency. I think I should get off of this stuff, but I'm nervous about reducing.
Among other things, I'm dealing with lyme disease and the cortisol has controlled the severe vertigo. Yet I really feel I need to get off of it.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to withdraw from the hydracortisone. What can I do to cause my adrenals to step up and work as I reduce my dose?
By the way, I've been having high blood pressure from a lot of stres and overweight, so I can't take anything that could raise it.
Thanks all
