Re: epsom salt question

Thank you, Big Cheese!

A posting made by "Marty B" last November to this newsgroup stated:

My question is, what are some specific side-effects?

I am concerned because I have been regularly taking about one gram of magnesium (MgO or MgOH) plus VB6 for the last 30 years in order to inhibit kidney stone formation.

No. If you have nomal kidney function (which you probably do), this much magnesium is almost certainly harmless (this statement based on lots of lifetime animals studies, and many decades of use in humans--as for instance preventing certain kinds of kidney stones). And thereare no known long-term toxicities of magnesium anyway. All known problems are "acute", which means they happen in a few days or weeks at
a give dose, or not at all. Magnesium does not build up in the body toward long term toxicity, as do some minerals (eg,
selenium or iron).
