Re: I'm Hangin' & Fightin'
Hey Sweetie, have you read this book?
http://www.amazon.com/Brain-That-Changes-Itself-Frontiers/dp/0143113100/ref=s...
It's amazing. Brain damage is NOT irreversible. PM me a mailing addie and I'll send it to you. I think that you may be able to find some ideas on how to direct your recovery efforts from that book.
Well, the good news it that you've got your disability:) That is good news indeed, because now you have access to some services, at least. And yes, everyone I know that's been in the system like you complains of the same hamster-wheel. But you've just got to grit your teeth and learn how to work it, because you WILL find resources through your "status".
And I just want you to know that yes, there are people out there that look at those "on the dole" as useless, etc. I'm NOT one of those people. Absolutely, you're right, what if any of us found themselves disabled? fortune can throw some curve-balls. And I HAVE known people on welfare, etc. It was there when they NEEDED it. It's a GOOD thing. IMO, it is our duty to care for those that, for whatever reason, cannot take care of themselves. And I don't place value judgements on the reasons. Sure there are those that take advantage of the system but that sort of moral corruption is present in all strata. It's just that the disenfranchised are easy targets for those that feel the need to point fingers and need to shore up their fragile sense of superiority. The class system is alive and well, you've found yourself temporarily at the bottom. Ain't nowhere to go but up! :)
"I just get so sick and tired of seeing all the debating by people who's only experience with the welfare system is regurgitated statistics that are meant to re-direct the focus off of those who are TRULY sucking us dry!"
EXACTLY. If I could ear-mark all of my tax dollars to human services, I would. As it is, I'm sure that I have involuntarily purchased plutonium. It's BS.
I think of you often, my thoughts and prayers are with you. You're a fighter and I know that you'll get through this.
And I think that it's beautiful how thoughtful you are about everything, how you have continued to find blessings amidst turmoil. It's inspiring that you are still able reach out a hand to others.
I would hope that we could all be as graceful as you.
:)
